As the power of computers continues to grow, the corporate cubicles where they often live are getting smaller. Toshiba set out to design a compact PC that could live flat or upright using minimal desk space.
Function Engineering developed a unique chassis design for the Equium that opens from the side. A rotating, one-button door allows easy access to frequently upgraded system components even when a monitor is resting on top. The chassis and case plastics were also engineered with a novel rotating foot that stabilizes the computer when used in a tower orientation.
