Candela Instruments is a leading supplier of Optical Surface Analyzers to the data storage industry. Candela's automated disk handler had to be designed for clean room operation, unattended operation, and automated measurement of both sides of the disk with zero impact to the disk.
Function Engineering developed the motion control, linkages, pneumatics and stepper motor system for a 6-axis automated robot prototype. The unit extracts a highly sensitive disk from a storage cassette for precision inspection and returns the disk flawlessly.
